Thomas Stringer Septet
20 Sherwood St, London, W1F 7ED
Description
The Tom Stringer Septet is an exciting up and coming band focused on paying homage to the jazz tradition, playing music of Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk and much more while also looking forward, trying to push with a fresh, original sound. Deeply influenced by the Wynton Marsalis septet, this ensemble doesn’t just play one style of jazz, they aim to honour all of it by covering every sub-genre.
Led by Tom Stringer, a rising jazz trumpeter, composer, and arranger based in London who draws inspiration from the expressive trumpet styles of Booker Little and Wynton Marsalis, as well as the compositional brilliance of Thelonious Monk, Kenny Wheeler, and Duke Ellington, Tom is developing a distinctive voice in both his improvisation and compositions, while under the mentorship of esteemed musicians Byron Wallen, Steve Fishwick, and Laura Jurd.
